The Best Picture Watching Project. Back in 2007, I decided to challenge myself by watching all the movies that had, up to that point, won the Academy Award for Best Picture. I was also trying to buy them all on DVD. (Did I mention it was 2007?) It looks like the last time I made an update about this was in 2020 because, let’s face it, we all had a lot of spare time that year.
Since blogging has more or less fallen to the wayside, I decided the smarter thing would be to just build a permanent page to refer back to the that I’d update from time to time.

Films I’ve Watch:
- Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) | Strange, but enjoyable. Raccacoonie.
- CODA (2021) | Tears.
- Nomadland (2020) | I remember this being a good film, but it didn’t leave an impact.
- Parasite (2019) | So good. Would watch again.
- Green Book (2018) | Enjoyed it at the time, but history has made it problematic.
- The Shape of Water (2017) | Of course fish sex should always win Best Picture.
- Moonlight (2016) | This was a beautiful film, but not for everyone.
- Spotlight (2015) | Everyone should watch this film. Remember “investigative journalism”? This movie does.
- Birdman (2014) | Strange, but enjoyable. The entertainment industry loves movies about their own industry.
- Argo (2012) | Engaging and entertaining. The entertainment industry loves movies about their own industry.
- The Artist (2011) | Best – ending – ever. The entertainment industry loves movies about their own industry.
- The King’s Speech (2010) | Did I enjoy this movie? Yes. Did it deserve to win over The Social Network? No.
- Slumdog Millionaire (2008) | I loved this film. Entertaining, brilliantly shot, and wholly unique in concept.
- No Country for Old Men (2007) | This movie is a whole vibe, albeit an uneasy one. Great film.
- The Departed (2006) | I have watched this film no less then ten time in my life, and will probably watch it again someday.
- Crash (2005) | I remember watching this solely because it won Best Picture and walked away a little confused.
- Million Dollar Baby (2004) | Tears.
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) | Sometimes you know that a movie wins for than just the film itself. This Best Picture winner is justified and, in my mind, is for the whole trilogy.
